wednesday. day one: the exodus
this story doesn't really open with a bang because i'm lazy and am not feeling very creative at the moment.
okay, so burg comes to pick me up and we drive into lethbridge to catch the greyhound (we're both living out of lethbridge at this time, by the way). before we go we're hungry and we stop at the subway before we leave cardston. i think it was kind of exciting. it was like...yay we're going on a trip let's eat and be happy...or something stupid like that...
we would have driven to edmonton, but burg's dad wouldn't let her drive all that way. we would have done it behind his back, but burg's dad would have found out. how? well, burg has to drive into lethbridge somehow and then leave her car somewhere. where? her aunt's, who we all love so dearly (*COUGH*). if we would have driven to edmonton, she would have told burg's dad that her car wasn't there. so we take the bus.
burg drops me off at the greyhound station with our baggage and she drives to her aunt's to drop her car off and get a ride from them back to the bus station. they weren't exactly quick about it, either. her uncle drove her, and apparently he's really slow. so i'm sitting here wondering where burg is as the bus is sitting there and everyone's getting on. i called her aunt's house and there was no answer, so i figured they were on their way...and they were. and she got there in time. more than enough time, really, but i can't say exactly i wasn't at least a little panicky.
the bus trip up was really uneventful. we left in the afternoon sometime, if i recall. they didn't show a movie, though. they rarely do on the lethbridge routes. we had to transfer in calgary, of course, because there isn't a direct lethbridge to edmonton route. the only stop on this particular lethbridge to calgary route was a quick rest stop in vulcan. we were very amused when we found out that they were selling spock ears in the gas station there. somewhere along this bus trip the sun was shining in my eyes. i don't remember when, but it was in my eyes for quite some time. i didn't have sunglasses (because i wear normal glasses), so i vowed to get sunglasses in edmonton.
so we transferred in calgary to a bus that was edmonton-bound (yay!). they showed two movies on this one: the banger sisters and something else that i didn't watch. no stops at all on this route.
we arrived in edmonton around midnight, got a taxi, and went to our hotel that i booked in advance on expedia.ca (yay for online convenience!). we stayed at the edmonton inn, which is right off the municipal airport in edmonton by kingsway. it's also connected to a ramada, or something, so that was a tad bit confusing...because we didn't book with no ramada...
our room was typical. i'm very surprised we got everything we asked for: two beds, non-smoking. it said when i booked the room that they couldn't guarantee either of those things. but we got them anyway. the view from our window wasn't too impressive, but at least we weren't facing the airport side. there's nothing like a dead airport to stare at. just a big open space. wow. but we were actually facing the rest of the city, so yay for us. a nice view of downtown, if you ask me.
it was pretty late, obviously, so i think we went straight to bed. i don't think we watched a movie or anything...
and we were in edmonton. it felt really good to be back, but it was different. i was back and free to do what i wanted. the past few times i had been back to edmonton was with my high school band and we had to follow a rules and a schedule and all that fun stuff. but not this time. it was just burg and i in a hotel room alone (ew, girl germs!!!).
